Habitat for Pollinators


Helping pollinators by building habitat along the Santa Monica creek trail in Carpinteria by replacing non-native invasive weeds with California native plants identified to help pollinators.

In October 2017, I initiated the project to Beautify Santa Monica creek trail. The goal was to create habitat for pollinators. I was focussed on lepidoptera, particularly the Monarch. But I also planted California natives for bees, hummingbirds, and other pollinators. Here are some photos of the trail at that time, prior to my efforts at both weed abatement and native planting:



In Spring 2020 The trail began to show the results of my efforts. Here are some photos of the trail from spring 2020:



In Fall 2020 the work on the trail will be vastly expanding. Going from over 4,000 square feet to over 20,000 square feet. Here are some photos of the trail from summer 2020:
